The Ancient Lod Community Archaeological Project aims first and foremost to generate social development and benefit the people of Lod. However, the highlights of the old city are undoubtedly its ancient monuments. 
These buildings are currently in dismal state of preservation and some are unstable to the point of being hazardous. During the winters of 1992 and 2013, segments of several buildings collapsed due to heavy rains. In addition, the local youth, unaware of the monuments historical significance, often vandalize the buildings. Consequently, the Israeli Institute of Archaeology set as its main goal to preserve and conserve the monuments in the ancient city and to ensure their preservation as tourist attractions in the future archaeological park. Conservation work is carried byYesodot of the Israeli Institute of Archaeology.
